The Northern Rivers is certainly in no shortage of incredible dining destinations, but every now and then, there’s one that sets itself apart from the rest. Let us introduce you to .

The magnificently restored colonial manor, perched on the banks of the Tweed River, has been a focal point of the Murwillumbah community for well over 100 years. After its recent restoration, Tweed River House has been given a new lease on life and is certainly shaking the Northern Rivers dining scene up. The sprawling mansion is a homage to the natural tones of the surrounding countryside; white washed walls are contrasted by dark wooden touches, pops of greenery and impressive luxe furnishings, all designed to transport you to slow, serene days by the river. Tweed River House is reminiscent of a bygone grandiose era, and you might just be tempted to linger on the expansive deck, take it slow and never leave.

The luxe riverside manor boasts sweeping views across lush tropical cane fields to the imposing Wollumbin and Border Ranges, so you’re guaranteed a stunning backdrop to your meal. If the impressive fit-out wasn’t enough to draw you in, Tweed River House won a Chef’s Hat in the 2022 Australian Good Food Guide Awards after just four months of operation. So yes, it’s damn good.

The extensive menu is modern, refined and lets the quality local produce speak, nay, sing for itself. Executive Chef Joseph McGrattan draws on the vibrant flavours of native and local produce, creating an ever-evolving menu that showcases the flavours of Northern Rivers produce—as well as some classic European techniques thrown in for good measure. Expect delicacies like crispy soft-shell lobster with salumi chorizo crumble and shellfish mousse, and chicken breast with pancetta crumble and bunya nut and riberry presse.

Tweed River House is the perfect marriage of tradition and modernity; it’s sophisticated yet simplistic, grandiose yet welcoming and is a true celebration of local flavours.
