Any Gold Coaster serious about their breakfast game will know Refinery Coffee in Currumbin, which has garnered a loyal following for many delicious reasons. And luckily for us, the talented Refinery crew have opened a lush new sister cafe in Carrara.
What can you expect? boasts a Euro-esque fit out seating up to 60 patrons and featuring white-washed exteriors, pops of greenery and an impressive arched serving space. Touches of moss green are complemented by gold accents and rattan chairs, and the outdoor courtyard is not only spacious but also dog-friendly. So yes, it's beautiful.
The Asian-inspired menu, curated by Head Chef Ryo Miyamoto, adds delightfully unique twists on classic breakfast stars—it’s almost the favourites you know and love, but better. Our top pick? The signature chilli scram is elevated with whipped goat cheese, roasted peanuts, crispy chilli oil, green chilli jam and micro coriander on a soft Turkish flatbread is simply sublime.
We also love the refreshing bang bang chicken salad with poached chicken, poached egg, slaw and a miso sesame chilli dressing and the Turkish-style poached eggs with flatbread, citrus labneh, roasted peanuts and crispy chilli oil is a must-order.
And the unique Asian-style twists don’t end with the food menu. On the drinks front, premium matcha is supplied from and we recommend the matched iced whip with white chocolate cream. You can also find a hojicha latte—matcha’s sweet, roasted sibling—on Cafe Junie’s menu, which is a rarity on the Gold Coast.
The Blackboard coffee is, of course, impeccable and we can’t go past the organic hot cacao on a cold winter’s day. If you’re after something lighter, pair your coffee with a fresh-daily pastry from local legends . The cinnamon scroll is quite simply one of the best pastries we’ve ever devoured.
Round up your crew and add to your weekend cafe hit list, stat.
