Kirra is undoubtedly one of the Gold Coast’s hottest, quickly-evolving suburbs and the arrival of Billy Chow is testament enough.
Primely situated directly opposite Kirra Beach, champions coastal pan-Asian cuisine with a strong focus on premium, locally-sourced produce.
The first thing you notice when you enter Billy Chow? The fit-out is seriously slick with hues of peach and terracotta, complemented by white brick and blonde wood.
A pink marbled bar commands the space, bringing your attention to the extensive supply of bottles behind the bar. Once you’ve soaked up the interior, the views overlooking Kirra beachfront are pretty damn good too.
The all-day dining menu is the work of culinary mastermind Head Chef Tony Katipa, who cut his teeth in several hatted restaurants across Australia and New Zealand.
Start small with dishes like the spanner crab rice paper rolls and ocean trout crumpets, before moving onto larger plates like the eye fillet pad see ew and miso toothfish cooked over charcoal. If you’re looking to indulge, go for a multi-course banquet which showcases star dishes—there’s also a vegetarian banquet option.
Pair your meal with Billy Chow’s large selection of cocktails; top choices include the coco chilli margarita, the umesha bubble tea and the Vietnamese coffee martini, a cheeky twist on a classic cocktail.
The owners behind Billy Chow, Trent and Leisha Scarr are the previous owners of Ally Chow so it’s safe to say they certainly know what Gold Coasters love.
“I love what we do and want to keep filling the room with happy people,” says Trent. “I’m excited about making the space buzz, sharing the love of what we do with locals and visitors. The ocean views are also a big plus.”
Consider this your sign to pull up a chair at Billy Chow this summer.
