The verdict

Tequila Mockingbird has opened in Five Ways at Paddington, restoring the three-storey terrace to its former glory with this modern restaurant and double bar. It is truly a labour of love for the many people who've made it possible.

The contemporary restaurant has a Latin American theme and the seasonal menu covers off cuisines from Mexico and Peru through to Argentina. Restaurateur Michael Fegent (formerly Sake) and Executive Chef Regan Porteous (of Riley St Garage and Toko) have teamed up to open this two-level restaurant with help from Sommelier Sam Jones (of Monopole).

The menu is divided into three sections; Raw, Streets and Flame and each is exactly as you would expect, featuring kangaroo tartare, alpaca and mozzarella empanadas and twice-cooked spatchcock with chimmichurri, respectively. All dishes are designed to share, which is handy because you will probably want to order one of everything off the drinks menu as well. Their wine and mezcal selection is that impressive.
