A true all-day destination, Sol bread and wine is a bakery and wine bar in North Sydney’s Walker Street precinct.

Inspired by the coffee-to-cocktails culture of Europe’s neighbourhood bars, Sol bread and wine’s 40-seat interior combines stone, timber and rich tonal colours, with the bread and cabinet display and a variety of seating on the ground floor, and a spiral staircase leading up to the bakery and sister venue Soluna.

From 7am daily the ovens turn out around seven kinds of artisan bread during the week—even more on the weekend—plus pastries including classic Viennoiserie, stuffed croissants like a standout baklava number, and Italian treats like maritozzi. Around nine cakes, tarts, and huge miso caramelised white chocolate and macadamia cookies can also be found in the cabinet.

There’s also a simple, satisfying breakfast menu with plates like soft-boiled eggs with fried polenta soldiers and smoked salmon, and a sourdough English muffin with pork sausage, fried egg, cheese and pickles.

For the lunchtime crowd, the house-made bread is turned into epic sandwiches like the EBLT (crumbed eggplant, bacon, lettuce, and tomato sugo on focaccia) or chicken salad on spelt loaf.

Sol bread and wine transitions into a wine bar in the afternoon, with a dedicated food menu offering tinned seafood, sliced-to-order cured meats from sister venue Una, and a few European small plates like a chopped salad, gnudi in verjus and brown butter, and spatchcock on pilaf.

Wines are approachable and easy-drinking, with plenty of minimal intervention bottles from Australia, France, Italy and Spain available by the glass, carafe and bottle.

Sol neighbours sibling venues Genzo, LA-inspired restaurant Soluna, and artisanal providore Una in the Walker Street precinct. Nearby venues Poetica bar +grill and Loulou Bistro, Boulangerie & Traiteur and The Charles Grand Brasserie & Bar and Tiva in the CBD also fall under Etymon Projects' Sydney restaurant portfolio.
