If Woody Allen’s time-travelling romance, Midnight In Paris had you swooning for sidecars, literary chitchat and the late-night romance of one of Paris’ many golden eras—you’ll want to check out Little Felix.
It’s the newest addition to Merivale’s Ivy precinct, the very first in a set of new openings as part of an Ash Street refresh, and an extension of Merivale’s very charming French gem, Felix.
At Little Felix, you’ll step back in time to the roaring 20s—the Hemingway, Fitzgerald, T.S. Eliot, Picasso and Dali days. It’s The Ritz and Harry’s New York Bar, Louis Armstrong and the birthplace of all of your favourite classic cocktails. Designed by ACME and Merivale interior stylist Amanda Talbot, the interior is dark and moody with emerald green walls, a hefty marble bar, leather booths and amber-coloured lampshades.
The menu features an eight-strong line-up of classic cocktails, just one or two steps away from the original recipe. Little Felix’s sidecar is called La Ricain (a nickname the French give to Americans), and is made with Hennessy VS, Cointreau, lemon juice, Le Birlou and finished with Armagnac.
The wine list has been created by Merivale’s Master Sommeliers Franck Moreau and Jean-Charles Mahe, and in a very lavish twist, wine and champagne are served from plus-size magnum bottles. According to Moreau, wine kept in a magnum “matures slowly, creating great nuances and more complex flavours.”
To eat, Felix head chef Nathan Johnson has created a neat menu of hor d’oeuvres (olives, oysters, caviar), charcuterie (ham hock and foie gras, duck liver parfait, jambon and melon), tartines (truffled raclette, smoked salmon, steak tartare) and, of course, a solid curation of cheeses.
If you want to dip into the 20th century’s dreamy golden age of cocktails, late nights and jazz—with a helping of cheese on your plate, Little Felix is where it’s at.
