The Verdict

Hola Sydney! An authentic Tex-Mex restaurant is coming to the Argyle precinct and it is opening its doors on Wednesday 25 May. It's the latest venture by The Urban Purveyor Group (think Fratelli Fresh, The Argyle and Sake) and promises to embrace the rough and ready Rock-n-Roll vibes and authentic Tex-Mex flavours. Think muscle cars and motorbikes, neon signs and an equally bold menu to match.

El Camino Cantina is bringing the fiesta to Sydney, boasting two huge bar spaces (where you can find complimentary salsa and chips – win!), a large dining room and mescal lounge. Speaking of booze, the tequila and mescal collection is staggering, with over 100 options. If the thought of choosing which one to sample is intimidating then opt for one of their freshly squeezed, shaken and blended margaritas, of which there are only three choices. You can choose between classic, mango and strawberry; frozen or on the rocks.

As much as we love a good mescal (or two), the food is always the main event in our eyes and your belly will be filled to the brim with tacos, fajitas and enchiladas doused in house made spicy salsa. The food is authentic and our top picks are the grilled mahi mahi tacos with avocado and chipotle remoulade, red cabbage and mango salsa and the 16 spice chicken fajitas, served with guacamole, Pico de Gallo, queso, rice and frijoles.

Come equipped with a raging hunger and opt for the tequila lime chicken enchiladas. These big boys are served with refried beans and rice, radish and cream and cabbage slaw as well as jalapeno cilantro cream sauce, Spanish onions, jack cheese and sour cream. Yeah, don’t say we didn’t warn you.

Did we mention these guys now do brunch?! So if unlimited margaritas weren't enough to get us excited, yes you read that correctly, unlimited margaritas are now a thing that your Sunday brunch absolutely needs. There's also all the breakfast favourites you could want, from damn tasty bloody marys to huevos rancheros and of course, a hearty AF breakast burrito.
