Hot diggity dawg, A new Korean hot dog joint has opened in Chancery Square, and they’re dishing out some seriously delicious snags.
Here to prove that hot dogs aren’t just meat in a bun topped with mustard and ketchup is Mighty Hotdog, and boy are they worthy of the name.
Now, we’re not talking about your average sausage sizzle here, no siree! We’re talking about hot dogs on a stick rolled in dough, fried to perfection, sprinkled with your fave toppings, rolled in sugar and served with lashings of sauce. Get in our bellies.
The simple yet genius idea hails from Korea, where it’s a fave street food option amongst the locals and we can certainly see why. After a trip to Korea to visit his parents, owner YongWoo Shim discovered his love for the tasty sausies and wanted to share what he’d found with Kiwis and so Mighty Hotdog was born.
You may have seen these guys around, dishing out some free snags at the Glenfield Night Markets, where they gained a cult following, but you’ll be pleased to know they’ve now got a permanent spot in the CBD.
Now, let’s move onto the grub, shall we? If you’re a lover of all things sweet and salty, then you’re going to want to hear this. Following a taste philosophy called Dan-JJan, which translates to sweet and salty combination, the team at Mighty Hotdog will tantalise your tastebuds by serving up the perfect balance of sweet and salty flavours. Now that’s something we can get behind.
Sink your teeth into the cheese rocket—a half cheese and half sausage combo that’ll give you your much needed savoury fix, yet it’s recommended to have a sprinkle of sugar on top, which will certainly hit that sweet spot.
For all your cheese fiends out there, then the mozzarella and cheese lovers dogs will certainly suffice—warning, these bad boys are seriously moreish. If you’re wanting to take your hotdog game up a notch, then opt for the nacho, filled with gooey cheese and coated in crunchy nacho pieces. Yum!
If you’re a serious condiment fan, then you’ll be pleased to know that there are a selection of sauces to coat your hotdogs in—everything from spicy to chocolate.
If like us your love a bit of texture to your food, then some real game-changers are the mighty potato—sausage coated in big chunks of taters and the crunch bites covered in crispy cornflakes.
