THE VERDICT
Mörk Chocolate emerged as a captivating family-owned brand, sparked to life by the synergy of the North Melbourne couple, Kiril Shaginov and Josefin Zernell. On a mission to elevate Melbourne's revered café culture, they started Mörk to ensure that every cherished establishment delivered an exceptional cup of dark hot chocolate that rivalled their esteemed coffee offerings. Now, Mörk Chocolate unveils their latest triumph—a cosy new store nestled within the vibrant tapestry of the Queen Victoria Market.
Positioned in QVM's Dairy Produce Hall, within the charming confines of a former cake shop, Mörk Chocolate's cornerstone stands as a welcoming treat for market-goers. Its warm and inviting ambience was designed by interior architect Danielle Oerman who retained the heritage persona of the market stalls while adding contemporary streaks of colour and wooden accents. Gingham wallpaper is plastered onto the walls while an illuminated menu from Pretty Polly Designs has been created to provide a Scandinavian feel. An island tabletop is adorned with warm terracotta tiles for brewing hot drinks, which is stationed near a sleek glass cabinet full of baked goods that sits on top of a marble benchtop.
On your visit to Mörk at the Market, anticipate an intricate range of hot chocolate drinks ranging from 50 to 85 per cent cacao. Think flavours like Hazelnut Praline Chocolate topped with pure dark chocolate gratings or their Australian Natives spiced chocolate made with house-made roasted macadamia milk.
The market stall won’t only be serving quality hot choccy– but fresh baked goods like twice-baked chocolate cake; yuzu and pistachio bundt cake or their caramelised hazelnut cake will graze the cabinet. Embracing the owner's captivating Swedish heritage, the range now includes delectableƒ cinnamon buns and of Swedish Kolasnittar biscuits, a recipe passed down through generations.
The new space will also have a range of hot chocolate goods for your pantry or gifting other sweet tooths.
