The Verdict

Little balls, big balls; chicken balls and fish balls—Meatball & Wine Bar’s new Chapel Street venue is where the good (meatball) times roll. Championing only the finest quality ingredients (they even have their own old school butcher shop in Richmond), roll on in for decadently modern Italian dishes that rival (dare we say it) Sunday dinner at Nonna’s.

Demolish oozy cheese sliders packed with meatballs and sauce, or scoop up forkfuls of pan-fried gnocchi scattered around a glorious giant pork and veal meatball. If you’re keen on having a threesome of balls, choose between five tender options, three sauces and a sotto palle (something cushy for your balls to sit on). The open Meatball Smash with veal and pork meatballs, creamy red sauce and stringy cheese will have Joey Tribbiani drooling.

Meatballs salads are perfect for a cheeky lunch, or you can plant yourself firmly on the opposite end of the spectrum with Meatball & Wine Bar’s Whoopie Mac—their homemade ice cream sandwich. Expect cookie choices like pistachio meringue and ice-cream including salted caramel. Conveniently, it happens to be rather difficult to share. Guess you’ll have to have a whole one yourself.

Drink like it’s Nonna’s birthday, with a solid, curated wine list featuring a range of natural wines. Cocktails like the Spritz Pop (it comes with a frozen ice pop, need we say more?) and the Limoncello Frizz (prosecco and lemon sorbet) complete the meal.
