The Verdict
Little Bourke Street dining institution, Longrain, will get a new lease on life with Scott Pickett recently announced to be taking over the restaurant.
In May 2020, it was announced by the Van Haandel group that Longrain would be closing with the effects of the COVID pandemic proving tough on the Chinatown restaurant.
“I have always loved Longrain, it’s a wonderful brand and venue, and I didn’t want to see that disappear. I am stoked that the team is staying on and we can continue this iconic Melbourne venue. Longrain 2.0 I call it,” says Pickett.
A large number of original staff members have been hired back as Pickett takes over the kitchen. The venue is expected to open in late July with two menus, one with Longrain's signature dishes, the other featuring dishes inspired by home regions of the kitchen staff.
