Forget ordering pizza to your neighbourhood bar/bottleshop combo. Benchwarmer has completely smashed the mould on what to expect by installing an izakaya inside their craft beer haven.
Part neighbourhood hangout, part serious dining destination, Benchwarmer blends Japanese-inspired bites, an expanded 18-tap beer lineup (from $10 Aussie lagers to rare Japanese stouts), and Lachlan Jones’ Oishii World imported bottleshop gems—all under one roof. It’s the kind of place where you can grab a six-pack to-go, settle in for sake-steamed clams, or linger over yakitori skewers without ever feeling like you’re in the "wrong" section.
Head chef Geoff Marett (ex-Michelin-starred Yardbird, Hong Kong) has dialed in a menu that’s playful but precise—think Kingfish tostadas on crispy wontons, XO lamb crumpets with yuzu labneh, and an upcoming Sunday BBQ yakitori series. Meanwhile, owner Lachlan Jones’ beer obsession means you’re sipping everything from Mountain Culture’s easy-drinking house lager to limited-edition Japanese brews.
There’s a lot going on but our fave thing is there’s no pretence, no pigeonholing—just good drinks, great food and a bangin’ vibe.
