In the shakeup to rival all shakeups, Sydney Tower—the gilded revolving spire formerly known as Centrepoint Tower—has had a totally stunning refurb. And, as well as looking the part, the tower is now home to a new three-storey dining precinct, which includes a casual eatery, a fine diner, and Sydney’s highest bar.
Slated to open later this month, SkyFeast at Sydney Tower will be a relaxed buffet-style spot serving up an international mix of dishes, from pasta through to fresh seafood, salads, desserts and more. As with all good buffets, the menu is bottomless—though with COVID restrictions still in play, it’ll be a table service type affair for the time being.
will be a fancier mood, with chef Mike Dierlinger (The Bridge Room) leading the kitchen. Following the concept of infinity, Dierlinger will bring endless creativity to his menu, focussing on fresh Aussie produce layered with international flavours.
“Diners can expect simple and elegant dishes that hero the incredible fresh local produce, crafted with an international twist,” Dierlinger said in a statement.
True to the original novelty factor of Sydney Tower, and possibly the ultimate 80s dining throwback, both SkyFeast and Infinity will revolve, giving you lush views of our pretty city, the Blue Mountains, and the sparkly Pacific Ocean.
The pièce de résistance, and perhaps the most impressive part of this renovation, is. Built into a former event space, and sitting 245 metres and 83 levels above the street below, this new cocktail lounge is officially Sydney’s highest bar. And while sure, that’s kinda awesome—the luxury retro-style fit out makes it one of Sydney’s most stylish too, a complete transformation from the kind of outdated tourist trap it had formerly been.
Designed by Sydney studio , Bar 83 feels like a lavish spaceship—a sort of Star Wars, Jetsons vibe, without at all being kitsch. When describing the project, Loopcreative said, “we wanted to design a bar, that to international and local guests alike, appeared as if it had always been there—a time-capsule of the era.”
With award-winning bartender Jenna Hemsworth behind the bar, Bar 83 won’t just be a stylish spot to take in the city skyline. Hemsworth was Bartender of the Year in 2018 and has spent three years curating cocktail lists at Swillhouse staples The Baxter Inn and Restaurant Hubert. Cocktails will hero Australian native ingredients in a modern, minimalistic format, and your drinks will be matched with a neat bar food menu by Dierlinger.
The bar will be open every day except Sunday, and until 2am on Fridays and Saturdays.
If you’re worried a revolving view of Sydney 83 floors up might get to be a bit much after a cocktail or three, fear not—Bar 83 does not spin. You can, however, hop between each of the three venues with ease via a newly installed spiral staircase, or a cruisy elevator.
Sydney Tower's new dining precinct will open Friday 25 September. Bookings for all three venues are available now—Bar 83 bookings can be made , and Infinity bookings can be made .
