Perth is a place of jaw-dropping beauty—sugar-white sand beaches and azure waters—and it’s best explored with a side of adrenaline. From soaring through the sky to braving bubbling river rapids below, there’s an active experience with your name on it.
Not sure which one to tackle first? No worries, we teamed up with our mates at —Australia’s first provider of on-demand accidental injury insurance—to round up seven of the best adventures to have in Perth. It’s time to explore a different side to your backyard with the peace of mind that you can adventure stress free.
Take To The Skies
A visit to postcard-perfect Rottnest Island is a must-do for any Perth local or visiting traveller. But if you’ve already snorkelled the cluster of turquoise beaches and bays, and cycled its winding roads, then there’s another way for you to explore—from above. will take you high into the sky, with a 20-minute flight over Rottnest, before you and your tandem skydiving instructor will take a leap of faith together. Freefalling 5,000 feet, you’ll hit speeds of up to 200km/hour landing on the sand at either Thompson, Bickley or Salmon Bay.
Speed Across The Ocean
Sure, surfing is fun and all, but have you ever channelled your inner James Bond and shot through the ocean with a jetpack? Trust us, you’ll want to get amongst the action over in Rockingham stat. The experts at will equip you with a wetsuit, helmet and waterproof speakers (so guides can instruct you during your ride) before you strap yourself into the jetpack and the adventure can begin. During your 20 or 30-minute ride (you choose), you’ll get the chance to master tricks like underwater submarines, waking, sharp turns, donuts, and the coolest one—hovering high above the water.
Abseil At Twilight
Perth sunsets are *chef’s kiss*, so imagine taking one in, in all its beautiful glory, while abseiling? is the only tour operator in Western Australia that offers twilight abseiling adventures and they’re a seriously special experience. Geared up with a harness and head torches, your instructor will take you on a 15-metre introduction abseil first, before advancing to the 60-metre abseil with stunning views of the city. Post adrenaline rush, they’ll treat you to drinks and gourmet pizza so you can refuel while your knees finally stop shaking.
Sandboarding At Lancelin Sand Dunes
Just over an hours’ drive north of Perth, test your skills with a sandboarding sesh at Lancelin Sand Dunes. Stretching for two kilometres, the towering sugar white sand dunes are the largest in Western Australia. Entry to the dunes is free, and they’re open every day of the year. But you’ll want to book ahead to reserve a sandboard from the kiosk, or BYO. Prepare to lose your stomach as you soar to the base of the dunes, and feel the calf burn when climbing back up to the top to do it all over again.
Enrol At The Ninja Academy
No, that’s not a typo, Perth is in fact home to its own . The mixed movement and obstacle training facility boasts the biggest and best Ninja Warrior-style course in Australia—people literally travel across the country to train here. So if you’re sick of your usual gym sesh, challenge yourself here. Choose between three classes, water (for flexibility and mobility), earth (for strength and stability) and fire (for hit and cardio), or go full Karate Kid and enrol in a course.
Go Two-Wheelin’
Explore Perth’s beautiful backyard on two wheels with a day spent mountain biking. Beginners can get their thrills with a side of history on the Railway Reserves Heritage Trail. The 41km trail follows a gravel track that traverses through the Perth Hills, John Forrest National Park (cue: waterfalls) and a disused railway tunnel. Even better, there’s pubs dotted along the route so you can refuel. For something a bit more advanced, head to the Kalamunda Trails—one of Perth’s top mountain biking destinations—for more than 40km of singletracks. Not sure where to start? Try the 20km Kalamunda Circuit featuring jumps, ladders, rock gardens and log rollovers to test out your skills.
Tackle River Rapids
There are few things more exhilarating than riding white-knuckled over foaming river rapids—and you can get in on the action right here in WA, in Dwellingup. Combining gentle paddles and rockier rapids on the Murray River, this is one ride you won’t soon forget. Rent a craft from and get exploring.
