The Verdict
A brand new Chinese BBQ with a difference has opened in Newmarket.
Tucked away behind the main drag, Hustle BBQ is a vibrant new eatery with high-quality charcoal grills that sit in the middle of your table with their own extractor that draws the smoke down and away from you and your barbecuing experience. No more leaving dinner smelling like you’ve been marinating in barbeque smoke.
Start your adventure with the umami cold tossed kelp alongside the cucumber and enoki mushroom appetisers as your personal grill heats up and you browse the extensive menu. Whet your whistle with a Chinese beer, Korean Soju, soft drinks and even a fresh coconut.
With prime proteins on offer including Wagyu beef rib, ribeye steak, pork belly and whole prawns, plus chicken wings, squid and plenty of vegetables to keep the plant-based at your table satiated, you won’t leave Hustle feeling hungry. Once your premium cuts arrive, pop them on the grill and resist the urge to interfere with the grilling process (a challenge).
Distract yourself by assembling your dip. First, you’ll receive a small bowl of tahini soy sauce to which you can add spring onion, coriander and garlic slices and stir well. When your meat is ready, dip it into the sauce, sprinkle with either a spicy or mild dry rub then wrap in a piece of lettuce.
Experimentation is the name of the game here with no right or wrong way to mix up your flavours. Pro tip: Use the edges of the grill for smaller cuts of meat.
Your grill will be changed between meats to ensure no cross-contamination of flavours so feel free to order seconds or even thirds. With a new hotpot option that looks equally fun, this is totally dinner with a show.
Hunt down Hustle BBQ at 88 Broadway, this place has your next group catch-up all over it.

Bistro Saine
Wander down the cobblestones of Saint Patrick’s Square and you might happen upon the luxurious first floor of newly-built Hotel Indigo, housed in a restored heritage building. You can enter through the other side too—the Albert Street entrance blending into the concrete jungle as if it was always there (just look for the elegant Bistro Saine font out front).
Takapuna Surf Club
When you hear the words surf club, what comes to mind? I think of ice cream, pizza, and Alf Stewart (I haven't watched Home & Away in years, but I understand the Summer Bay Surf Club is still standing. Poor old Mr. Stewart, I'm not so sure).
