Imagine everything you want in an elevated fast food joint, and you’ll find that—plus some—at the newly-opened  in South Auckland.

Gourmet burgers, fried pickles, cheesy jalapeno spring rolls, inventive chicken wings, and seriously truffle-infused mac n’ cheese call this Manukau shrine to elevated fast food home.

Brew’d Hawt is the brainchild of local restaurateur, and fried chicken aficionado Aari Puri (formerly of Pickle Pickle and Boy & Bird). Bringing together a love for flavours that push boundaries, in classic fast food and pub grub forms, in a dine-in or grab-and-go space.

Follow the green neon light, smack-bang across from MIT and the Manukau train station and you’ll be met with endless opportunities for serious feasting, through to a light snack. Dine in or grab food to go, the option’s yours.

Let’s start by saying that fried chicken is Brew’d Hawt’s thing. You’ll find chook of all shapes, sizes and seasoning on the menu—followed naturally by an intense craving to try them all.

There’s Szechuan pepper, lemon-pepper, a Nashville style (where the cayenne kick comes from within the coating, no sticky sauce necessary), a lemongrass-lashed Thai, and a Korean-style chilli that scores serious authentic points, where wings are concerned.

As boneless picks, sink your teeth into their signature fried chicken and you’ll notice the difference: all of the crunch and juicy chicken, none of that oily, greasy drip. To thank for this is the team’s signature coating of premium, three-flour, coating—which took years of perfecting, and many taste tests, we enviously imagine. This should score serious bonus points if you prefer grabbing and going: this will keep perfectly crispy through the car journey home—26 minutes to be precise, they’ve timed it. You’re the master of your spice level; let the natural crunch take centre stage with the OG level, or dial the chilli up with ‘Hawt Hawt.’

No talk of fried chicken is complete with the godfathers of the menu, the fried chicken burgers. Now, take any preconceived ideas of a smushy burger out of your head. Brew’d Hawt burgers do this staple with premium ingredients, real cheese in brioche (or lettuce) buns—and all fast, with finesse.

Opt for the BH OG for a good slab of fried chicken thigh in a towering pickle, chipotle-lashed classic burger, or experience Brew’d Hawt’s flavour maestro abilities with the Bombay G (A spiced curry coating), the Truff’d (a honey truffle and cheddar masterpiece) or even a Korean Chilli coating, complete with peanuts and gochujang.

If you happen to launch a total obsession with the Bombay G coating, number one: we’re with you. Number two: you can also grab them as a moreish serving of buttermilk chicken bites, complete with their herb mayo and mango chutney.

Vegetarians, and even vegans, don’t let all this talk of chook make you turn the other cheek: there’s a very own spiced tapioca hash and grilled halloumi burger, alongside endless veggie sides and salads. Kimchi or OG loaded fries, polenta bites that slap you with a hit of parmesan and rosemary, fritters are all here for the taking.

The must-try no matter your foodie leanings are the fried pickles and the jalapeno cheese rolls. Thin slabs of perfectly juicy pickles cased in a delectable, yet light coating. Then a gooey, soft cheese filling with chopped-up peppers and corn, perfectly encased by spring roll coatings.

Nodding to the nostalgia of burger bars is their sweet selection of milkshakes. No syrupy, icey or lumpy concoctions are found here: just properly shaken Vanilla or Caramel Chocolate with Lewis Road Creamery, come towered with whipped cream. Or opt for one of the hugely popular Coke floats.

Desserts have been designed as the perfect send-off, post feed at Brew’d Hawt: not too heavy, but still very indulgent. There’s a moelleux-style brownie drizzled (thanks to its unique ingredient, almond flour—making it gluten-free!) with real caramel, as well as their light, fluffy and real-fruit smacking raspberry cheesecake.

With all the trimmings of your favourite gastro bar, and soon-to-be beer and bubbles offering, it’s safe to Brew’d Hawt has all your hankerings catered to—even the ones you didn’t quite know existed.

Wander down the cobblestones of Saint Patrick’s Square and you might happen upon the luxurious first floor of newly-built Hotel Indigo, housed in a restored heritage building. You can enter through the other side too—the Albert Street entrance blending into the concrete jungle as if it was always there (just look for the elegant Bistro Saine font out front).

When you hear the words surf club, what comes to mind? I think of ice cream, pizza, and Alf Stewart (I haven't watched Home & Away in years, but I understand the Summer Bay Surf Club is still standing. Poor old Mr. Stewart, I'm not so sure).
