Queenstown is famous for its jaw-dropping landscapes, and while the Great Walks get all the hype, there are plenty of other incredible trails that deserve a spot on your to-do list. Whether you’re after a short stroll, a solid leg-burner, or something in between, here are the best walks in and around Queenstown that aren’t the Great Walks.
Queenstown Hill Time Walk

If you’re after epic views without committing to a full-day trek, Queenstown Hill is your go-to. The climb takes you through a pine forest before opening up to panoramic views of Lake Wakatipu, The Remarkables, and beyond. The “Basket of Dreams” sculpture at the top is the perfect spot for a snack break and some serious daydreaming. Oh and don't forget to keep en eye out for goats.

Ben Lomond

Skip the Skyline Gondola and hike up the Tiki Trail instead. It’s a steep climb, but once you hit the Ben Lomond Saddle, you’ll feel on top of the world (and if you push on to the summit, you actually will be). Trust us, the 360-degree alpine views are well worth the burn.

Bob’s Cove Track

Okay, we won’t sugarcoat it—Roys Peak is a bit of a beast, but honestly, it’s so worth the climb. If you’re not up for the full 5-6 hour trek, no worries! Stop at the first viewpoint (about halfway up), and you’ll still be treated to stunning views. It’s a challenge, but definitely one you’ll be glad you took!
