Auckland’s dog-loving neighbourhood Ponsonby is home to a variety of bars and restaurants that welcome us hoomans and our furry friends with open arms. One of our faves has to be Hoppers Garden Bar, a cool botanical space serving up craft beers on tap, mind-blowing shared plates and some of the best cocktails in town. And if that’s not enough then this inner city wonderland welcomes all creatures great and small, they even have puppy portraits on the walls and a dedicated for all your cute pooch content.
The Cav
Freemans Bay
Keen for an afternoon bevvy in the sun but just can't leave your pup at home? No worries, head to The Cav— Ponsonby’s pooch-friendly pub that dishes up hearty pub grub with a modern twist. This Ponsonby treasure provides a buzzing atmosphere, delicious food, and ice-cold beverages for you and your four-legged friend. Pull up a pew on their deck and take in the sweeping views of the city while sipping on a craft beer or two.
Rosanna’s Garden Bar
Kingsland
Fancy a trip to Bali but can’t leave your pooch home alone? No worries, pack your bags and head to Rosanna’s Garden Bar—a Bali-inspired urban retreat nestled in Kingsland. Whether you’ve got two legs or four, everyone’s welcome at Rosanna’s. Bring your pooch along and Rosanna’s will do the rest as they provide treats, a comfy dog bed, and even a cute toy. Turn holiday mode on and sit back sipping on Salted Caramel Espresso Martinis, while your pup laps up the water bowl. Located in Freemans Bay, this stunning building is home to a whole lot of history but also a whole lot of pups. This Insta-worthy spot is a puppy-friendly palace with exposed brick walls, wooden floors, stained-glass windows, open fireplaces, and the best part—a sun-drenched beer garden for you to enjoy a tipple or two while your four-legged friend makes some friends fur-ever.
Pocket Bar & Kitchen
Grey Lynn
If your dog is having a bit of a ruff day (see what we did there) then take them to Pocket Bar & Kitchen in Grey Lynn, where they’re guaranteed to have a ball. The neighbourhood bar not only serves up some epic food—think tacos, fried chicken, lamb chops and cheesy arancini balls, but they're also huge dog advocates. You can expect to see plenty of doggos living their best life six days a week at Pocket Bar. They even host a Dog and Grog event on the third Saturday of every month. Hosted by Auckland Pet Hospital, this special event brings the canine community together, no matter what shape or size. Sample their craft beers, while mingling with a group of like-minded dog lovers. Don’t worry about your pup, there will be lots of tasty treats to keep them entertained.

Take your pooch on a date to Parade in Ponsonby. Its ever-evolving menu of tasty AF burgers and mouth-watering sides will certainly capture your heart and your tastebuds. It's even got an epic garden fit-out for your dog to do a spot of puppy-watching. Wrap your chops around the Wagyu beef smashed patty and wash it all down with a cocktail pug—oh sorry, jug.
Beau Wine Bar

Wine, need we say any more? Whether you’re into red, white, rose, the sweet kind, the dry kind—you name it Beau Wine Bar will have it. This waterfront spot is the go-to place for all the social pupperflies and their owners. If your dog likes to mingle as much as you, then head to Wynyard Pavilion for the paw-fect Sunday afternoon sesh. The first Sunday of every month, they host a whole day dedicated to man’s best friend. There will be lots of pup-cakes for your pooch to enjoy whilst you sip on a well-deserved beer or two because you’ve been a good hooman.

There are plenty of great breweries in Auckland where furry friends are welcome, but one of the greats is . A brewery and eatery located in what was once an aircraft hanger in Hobsonville—so there’s heaps of space outdoors to accommodate even the larger breeds of dog. There’s also live music, quiz nights, and even doggy events like pet day markets and pooch parties. So, next time you’re out west, pop into Little Creatures—it’s sure to not disappoint you or your pup.
