A 60s-inspired fashion boutique inside St Paul’s Cathedral? Yep, it does exist.

Alpha60 are getting a rep as the next big thing in local Australian fashion, and they’re building their name on the city’s favourite colour: black. Black as a triple-shot espresso in a dark basement on a moonless night. The monochromatic palette gives it a timeless, vintage-mod aesthetic that fits Melbourne winter to a T.

The store itself is named after Alphaville (a Jean Luc Goddard noir classic from the mid-60s) and it’s not without a sense of humour. The store-front downstairs is home to a giant horizontal crucifix (a little nod to its St Paul’s location), and the brand, while sophisticated, isn’t afraid to get a little quirky. If you drop by, make sure to head upstairs to the new Chapter House concept store: a vaulted, light-filled space carved from the bones of the old cathedral. Hands-down the prettiest boutique in the city.

The collection itself is mostly built around high-quality basics and a few statement pieces. A muted norm-core palette featuring long, flowing jackets, classy knits and off-beat men’s tees. There’s also a footwear and accessories range, if you want to pair your new skirt with leather sandals or a classy tote. Winter lookbook sorted.
