Spread across two levels, the highly anticipated is a Toyko-chich style diner, located at 80 Collins Street; right next door to one of Melbourne’s newest fine diners, Society. The all-new Japanese restaurant is the long-time inspiration of restauranteur, Chris Lucas, who spent three years living and working in Toyko, and wanted to bring the atmosphere of the late-night Izakaya bars to Melbourne.
‘Yaki’ which means grill in Japanese foreshadows a lot of what you can expect from the menu. Helmed by Melbourne chef, Daniel Wilson formerly of Huxtable, there a range of small plates, quick bites, and larger dishes cooked directly over the flames including the barbecued pork cheek with fermented chilli and sesame and whole miso-glazed chicken.
Up on the business end on Collins Street; the all-new diner has a fresh new look that combines contemporary Toyko with a splice of dystopian futurism. The neon-colourful space is edgy and it’s certainly not what you’d expect from its unassuming exterior on the street.
Yakimono, together with , re-opens together on Friday 5 November, but you’ll have to be quick as reservations open up as of today. Click to get your seat.
