January is creeping up on us once again, and the NGV has served up a free after-hours festival set to shake up your summer nights, for 10 days straight. T offers a little piece for everyone to enjoy—from pop-up artist talks and immersive gallery activations to vibe-providing DJ sets.
The scene will be set by two monumental sculptures created by British artist Thomas J Price that will take over the NGV’s Federation Court. Providing the perfect visuals for a program of live music, spoken word poetry and dance that will celebrate the African diaspora living in Australia.
You can expect to trade in your pre-loved tennis balls with leading British artist David Shrigley, divulge your dreams, hopes and reflections in Richard Lewer’s participatory series, and boogie until your heart's content as some of Melbourne’s best DJ’s turn the court into a raging dancefloor—Think C.FRIM, IN2STELLAR and Sui Zhen.
There will be lots on offer to quench that thirst and satisfy those bellies. The Great Hall will have Moet flowing and there will be the crowd favourites Four Pillars Gin served in the Gallery Kitchen. Plus don’t miss out on the Yering Station Wine Bar’s decadent charcuterie platters and salty oysters—washed down with some fine Yarra Valley wines of course.
The Triennial EXTRA will disrupt your Melbourne nights with something creative, fresh, and important from January 19 until January 28.
