There’s nothing we love more than an aesthetically pleasing venue with a dining menu to match, and the CBD’s The Wolf is ticking all those boxes and then some. Part deli, part providore, part wine store, with a restaurant and bar involved as well, the gourmet destination is owner Fabian Rebelo’s second foray into the Brisbane hospitality scene, the first being Queen Plaza’s Stanton Cafe & Bar.

Like its older sibling, The Wolf is worthy of an interior design magazine spread, and in fact, was shortlisted for the Best Restaurant Design Award in the 2023 Eat Drink Design Awards. Awash in a medley of layered textures, prints and colours, the multiple spaces are adorned in warm timbers, traditional terrazzos, vibrant wallpapers, marble and event corduroy, inspired by the classic souled eateries and delis of Madrid, Barcelona and Florence.

Just to the left you’ll find a charming deli and grocery store (open Monday to Friday from 7am-3pm) where you can pick up everything from a pastrami Reuben for your office desk lunch to a cheeky bottle of wine to take home, and even the likes of cheese, crackers and caviar for a fancy picnic spread down in the Botanic Gardens. The real food adventure, however, starts when you head through the door that says ‘Dining’—through a wine cellar and into the sleek restaurant and bar beyond.

Here you can start with a glass of champagne at the stunning, red-tile marble bar, then take a seat for a Euro-inspired feast. Start with freshly shucked oysters and sea scallops saltimbocca with pancetta foam and celeriac remoulade before moving onto braised wagyu beef cheek gnocchi and swordfish ceviche. Larger plates range from the likes of quail with wild grain and chorizo stuffing to the blanquette of Tasmanian rock lobster with black garlic butter, best paired with a side of crispy confit potato.

If you're keen to check it out but not ready to commit to a long, leisurely visit, sampling their new $39 one-course offering on your lunchbreak could be just the ticket. Available Monday to Wednesday for lunch and dinner, the 'plat du jour' menu includes bread and cultured butter, a main course of your choosing plus a chef's side for $39pp.
