This Remote Tasmanian Lodge Just Levelled Up With A Luxe New Stay And Star-Studded Chef Lineup

By

If you’ve been planning a winter escape that’s serving pure bucket list vibes, Tasmania’s award-winning Kittawa Lodge has delivered. The off-the-grid haven, nestled on King Island’s untamed coastline, has just swung open to doors to their newest designer digs, Kittawa Retreat. And to celebrate, they’re bringing back their exclusive Guest Chef Series, treating travellers to an intimate dining experience curated by culinary legends Rosheen Kaul and Stephen Nairn.

Just a short 45-minute flight from Melbourne, this breathtaking sanctuary is set on 96 acres of untouched rugged wilderness—offering wanderlust-seekers the chance to disconnect from daily life, and unwind in nature’s playground. While Kittawa Lodge offers secluded one-bedroom escapes perfect for solo travellers or couples, Kittawa Retreat—with its expansive two bedrooms—is perfect for a family or a getaway with your mates.

Architecturally designed to maximise natural light and a connection to the outdoors (think: floor-to-ceiling windows), the Retreat still encompasses the same relaxed luxury and unparalleled privacy as the Lodge, but with some additional features. Our fave? The outdoor seating area and generous hot tub set against panoramic ocean views. It’s just begging you to zen out with a local vino under a blanket of stars in the evening.

Inside the decadence continues to unfurl, with bespoke interiors, hand-crafted furniture, and a designer European wood-burning fireplace. There’s even a private cellar, stocked with fine wines and spirits.

Each of the bedrooms is kitted out with plush king-sized beds and a seating area, with the option to convert the second room into twin singles. The bathrooms are just as dreamy with rain showers and deep soaking tubs.

But the indulgence doesn’t stop there. Kittawa Lodge is all about crafting a truly bespoke getaway. Case in point: the return of its intimate Guest Chef Series, led by Rosheen Kaul (former Head Chef of Etta and award-winning author) and LK Hospitality Culinary Director, Stephen Nairn. These unforgettable three-night packages - available for up to eight guests at a time—will take place across May, June and August and start at $8,650 per couple.

The gastronomic adventure includes three nights’ accommodation and invites guests to indulge in a decadent menu curated by Kaul and Nairn, showcasing King Island’s premium local produce. Think: daily brekky, gourmet picnics, and intimate dinners served in each guest’s private lodge—complete with Tasmania’s best tipples.

You’ll also be treated to a haul of Kittawa’s signature snacks, a signed copy of Rosheen’s book, plus AWD car hire to explore King Island. And if you really want to treat yo’self, you can add on 60-minute in-lodge treatments like guided yoga or remedial massages and a Southern Expedition tour. It’s remote living at its absolute best.
