Our obsession with true crime-inspired series knows no end, which is why we want to do a solid for our fellow dark hearts out there by introducing you to , Netflix’s new binge-worthy show.

The limited series is being produced by Shonda Rhimes (Scandal, Bridgerton), you already know it’s going to be one of the best shows to drop in 2021.

The show is inspired by Anna Delvey, the Instagram-legendary German heiress who stole the hearts of New York’s social scene—and then their money—before a 2018 New York Magazine article, “How Anna Delvey Tricked New York’s Party People”, brought it all crashing down.

As the article went viral, Delvey was revealed to actually be Anna Sorokin, with no $60 million dollar trust fund in sight. In fact, the Russian-born fraudster was found to have conned hundreds of thousands of dollars out of everyone she came into contact with—hoteliers, restaurateurs, and her famous, socialite friends.

She was eventually charged with grand larceny, fined $24,000, ordered to pay restitution of about $199,000. And to top it all off, she was given a sentence of four to 12 years in prison.

We know it sounds too wild to be true, making it the perfect storyline for a Netflix and Shondaland series-adaptation.

In Inventing Anna, the show follows journalist Vivian, who has a lot to prove and sees the curious case of Anna Delvey as her ticket to the big time. But when Anna and Vivian form a dark, funny love-hate bond as Anna awaits trial, the reporter fights the clock to answer the biggest question in NYC: who is Anna Delvey?

Sounds juicy right? So who has been cast to play the mysterious Delvey? Only Ozark’s incredible Julia Garner that’s who! While Anna Chlumsky (Veep) will star as reporter Vivian. Rounding out the all-star cast is Arian Moayed (Succession) as Delvey’s quirky lawyer, Todd Spodek and Laverne Cox (Orange Is The New Black) as celebrity trainer and life coach Kacy Duke, who soon finds herself swept up in Delvey’s lies.

Inventing Anna is rumoured to be dropping on Netflix in the second half of 2021.
