While you may want an e-scooter, you might not be able to get one for public use, depending on which state you live in. We’ve done the research to bring you a state-by-state breakdown of electric scooter laws across Australia.
ACT
You can ride electric scooters in the Australian Capital Territory, but they cannot be used on roads—unless there is no path, in which case you must only ride on the road for as long as is necessary.
You can use an e-scooter as long as you are 12 or older. Children under 12 must be supervised by an adult. You can travel up to 15km/h on footpaths and up to 25km/h on shared paths and bicycle paths. You must wear a helmet at all times.

Currently, it’s illegal to use a private electric scooter on public roads, paths and road-related areas in NSW. You can only use your e-scooter on private property.
